Church of the Atonement

Project Overview

The mission of the Church of the Atonement is to be a place of hope where all people from all walks of life can come together as a family with a desire to learn from God’s Word as found in the Holy Scriptures; a desire to love the Lord and one another as Jesus commands us to do in the gospels; and finally to a desire to live in such a way that we glorify God as being called the light of the world.

Their project is to create a mobile ministry kit to bring resources that are needed while breaking down barriers, ultimately leading to gospel opportunities. We live in a world where it is very difficult for non-believers to come comfortably into sacred places. The least, the last, and the lost are not found within the confines of the 4 church walls. So we the church, the called-out ones, must go to the margins and engage the marginalized.

Project Impact

Church of the Atonement plans to build a trailer that can go to various spaces in the surrounding areas of the church. Currently, the church serves 5 outdoor events including but not limited to the church lawn, baseball fields, and local parks. The need is to provide carnival atmospheres and gospel outreaches in these spaces. Currently, the church borrows from other churches and local partners bounce houses, grills, generators, etc.

This grant would allow the church to become self-sufficient as they bring the gospel to areas of low-income housing, food insecurity, and vulnerable children. Their strategy of being present in these spaces allows them to combine several facets of our current ministries. It has allowed them to use their food retail rescue and bring it to the neediest instead of demanding they come to the church. It opens an opportunity to invite kids to our after-school and week-long overnight bible camp and most importantly gives the church a chance to engage in conversations with those who don't know Christ.
